A long time ago, John and Mary came to the house of a sailor man. He lived by the sea. He worked on boats. When the children met him, the man was sitting by his door. He was tying ropes.

"How do you do?" asked the man.

"We are very well, thank you," said the children. "And we hope you are the same. We heard you had a boat. And we thought that you might take us out and teach us how to sail. We would like that very much."
