ReadOasis Step 2 August 1870. France and the German state of Prussia are at war. A big young man walks along a road near the French town of Fontainebleau, south of Paris. He carries a heavy bag and has a crazy plan. He wants to walk all the way to Italy. His name is Sophus Lie (say "Lee"). He is 27, and he comes from Norway. He is strong, and he loves long walks. More than anything, he loves math. The French police stop him. They open his bag. Inside, they find pages and pages of strange symbols...
