The world famous linguist Paul Nation says that big reading works as the most important improvement that a teacher can make in a language course.
My name is Joseph Poulshock, PhD. and I am asking the question, “Why Read Big?”
Well for reason number 4, the answer is because it’s the most important improvement.
So here is the claim, big reading works as the best way to improve how you learn and teach English. It’s the most important improvement for nations, for schools, for teachers and for learners.
So for example, if you are the person in-charge of the whole national curriculum for learning English in your country, then you might want to consider the idea that big reading is the most important improvement that you can make at the national level for English education.
If you are in-charge of English education at your school, high school, elementary school, junior high school, university, then you might want to consider this idea that big, easy reading is the most important improvement that you can make to your whole school language curriculum for learning English or foreign languages.
If you’re a teacher in-charge of a number of classes, and you teach many students, you might want to consider the possibility that big, easy reading is the most important way, the best way that you can improve how you teach English or foreign languages in your classes, and if you’re a learner…
And if you’re a learner, it follows that you’re learning English, you’re studying English, how can you improve the way you study/ Well, big, easy reading is the most important, the best way for learners to improve how they study or learn English.
Well many of you might be asking, why at this point. Why, right? Well, because there are many reasons, and that’s why I’m giving these short videos. But big reading helps us learn vocabulary, grammar. Big reading makes us smarter, and big reading often takes place in stories and stories are the most powerful way to put information into the world. And stories are the most powerful way to put information into our brains. Do you want to improve the way you learn and teach English?
Let’s read big!
