Little Anne Darwin was her father's pride and joy, and she loved her father with a special kindness. But in 1849, Anne became sick with a high fever. Her father tried long and hard to help her. But Anne didn’t get better, and she died. So Charles Darwin buried his daughter near a church in the West Midlands of England, and he put a stone above her grave. On the stone, he wrote the words: "Anne Elizabeth Darwin, a dear and a good child."
