But Lewis was not always a religious man. From the age of thirteen till the age of thirty-one, Lewis supported atheism (the idea that God does not exist). However, Lewis began to change his mind because of the books he read and because of his discussions with other scholars and friends. Eventually, he came to the conclusion that belief in God was a sensible thing. In 1929, Lewis confessed a general belief in God, and in 1931, he converted to Christianity.
