Leonardo da Vinci began working on the Mona Lisa in 1503. But he didn't finish it for many years. In 1516, he took the painting from Italy to France. And he probably finished it there in 1519 before he died. Then the King of France bought the painting. And later, King Louis the 16th moved it to the Palace of Versailles. At one point, Napoleon hung the Mona Lisa in his own bedroom. And today she rests in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The French took great care of the Mona Lisa. But...
