The brightness of the winter sun streamed over the breakfast table. Herbert looked at the scene and laughed at his fears from the night before. The air of the room was filled with ordinary and healthy smells. It felt natural, good, and very different from the night before. The little paw just sat on the counter, as if nobody cared about it. In the morning light, it seemed insignificant and small.
