In 1696, Newton moved to London to manage the Royal Mint. This is the place where coins are made in the United Kingdom. During this time, Newton reformed the money system. He moved his country from the silver standard to the gold standard. This allowed money to represent real gold held in a bank. At the same time, Newton punished people who made fake money.
