Kana looked at her test. Her face felt hot. Her hands shook. The red number at the top said: 55. She felt sick. “I’m so stupid,” she thought. “I studied. I tried. But I still failed.” She crushed the test into a ball, put it in her bag and looked down at the floor. She wanted to disappear.
After class, Kana sat on the ground outside her classroom. Her friend Yui walked over and sat beside her. “You okay?” Yui asked. Kana shook her head. “I crashed,” she said. “Big time.”
