(Part 1)

Once upon a time there was a husband and a wife who had no children. Every day they prayed to Heaven to send them a child, even if it were no bigger than a hazelnut. (A hazelnut is a small brown nut.)

Heaven finally heard their prayers, and sent them a child the size of a hazelnut. They gave him the name Hans, which means gift from Heaven. But the child never grew any bigger than a little hazelnut.
